A Story of Planting a Church on the Field

Probably the most fruitful time of our ministry in France was the period we served in the city of Nantes. The church grew numerically, and it was exciting to be part of it. The growth eventually led to the purchase and renovation of a former cinema called The Lux (latin for “light”). Former missionaries John & Pansy Murray brought over a team of workers to help with the renovation. When John saw the building for the first time, he was overwhelmed. He said, “Steve, come with me. I’ve got to show you something.” We hopped in the car and drove around the block where John pointed out a house to me. We were just a few hundred yards behind our new building. It was the house where former missionaries Don & Billie Sexton had lived when they first came to Nantes in the early 70s.

It was my turn to be overwhelmed. Don & Billie served faithfully in France for many years, praying to see a harvest. It was no coincidence that now, many years later, a building called “The Light” had been given by the Lord just a few hundred yards from the spot where they had labored and prayed. I remind myself of that experience often as Becky and I are now praying for a harvest in Châteaubriant. Maybe we won’t be the ones to see that harvest. But the words in red are still true : One man sows, and another reaps.

Plant churches and equip believers among some of the most resistant and least-reached peoples of the world. Our missionaries are ready and willing to go to the hard places to reach the unreached.
