Find Us Faithful

Tim and Kristi Johnson

More than twenty-five years ago, we stood in front of a church filled with friends and family and promised to love each other “until death do us part”. During the wedding ceremony, we listened as the following words were sung:

O may all who come behind us Find us faithful,
May the fire of our devotion Light their way.
May the footprints that we leave, Lead them to believe,
And the lives we live Inspire them to obey.
O may all who come behind us Find us faithful.

These words were also sung when we were commissioned as missionaries to Spain a few years later. And again, as each of our children was dedicated to the Lord as babies. On Saturday, September 5, we heard them sung at the funeral where we said goodbye to Kristi’s dad, who passed away suddenly a few days before. The song goes on to say:

After all our hopes and dreams Have come and gone,
And our children sift thru all We’ve left behind,
May the clues that they discover, And the mem’ries they uncover, Become the light that leads them, To the road we each must find.

We can say without a doubt that Kristi’s dad was found faithful…by his family, by his church, and by his Savior. Our hearts are heavy and our cheeks are tear-stained, but as we follow in her dad’s footprints and sift through the memories he left behind, we truly will discover that he was FOUND FAITHFUL.
