Overcoming Barriers to Fulfill the Call (Bryson Foulks)

Overcoming Barriers to Fulfill the Call

Hear from IM missionaries as they share their stories about the variety of ways they have each overcome different barriers to fulfill their call to the mission field. How is God calling you to take the Gospel to the nations or to those around you?

Bryson Foulks shares his story of how to live life on mission as a single, despite loneliness He shares it has been a time of self-discovery and growing dependence upon the Lord.

Striving to live life on mission as a single, young person can feel quite lonely at times. From the long drives from one church to the next, seeking to build partnerships while on stateside assignment, to spending long hours “alone” each week without anyone you can effectively communicate with in your host country. However, it is also a blessed time of self-discovery and growing dependence upon the Lord.

We are never alone, even when those feelings well up inside. Multiple times in Scripture, God said He would never leave us or forsake us and there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. What a friend we have in Jesus and what a Father we have in the Lord!

In Matthew 28: 18-20, Jesus leaves His disciples with these three things:

  • A Statement – “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
  • A Commission – “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you.”
  • A Promise – “Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Those final words were not meant solely for the ears of “the twelve”. The Holy Spirit continues to echo them in the hearts and minds of disciples of Jesus all across the globe, and He will do so until Christ’s triumphant return.

That is the same call that I answered by following the Spirit’s leading to come alongside the ministry here in France. However, no call comes without challenges and obstacles; it’s part of the human experience. Nevertheless, we must learn to be content in whatever state or season God has us in and with whatever giftings God has bestowed upon us to edify His Church and proclaim His Gospel to the nations.
