PRESENT MINISTRY

Nathan and Linda Snow and family minister in Abashiri, a city in the gospel-remote region of Eastern Hokkaido, Japan. Japan is the second-largest unreached people group in the world. The majority of their ministry takes place through informal community meal gatherings in their home, small group meetings in neighboring areas, English classes, pastoral care, connections through the Japanese schools their children attend, and other natural community connections.

The Snows share they have found that the most effective method for reaching our community is by building trust relationships. It does take a lot of time and effort, but it is vital to being able to earn the opportunity to speak to listening ears and open hearts, so they use hospitality as one of their major tools in sharing the gospel.

While pastoring the Abashiri church through a revitalization period, they are also seeking to establish other core groups of new believers in surrounding towns and cities where there is no gospel presence. They are the only Christian missionaries within three hours drive of their region.

Linda spends much of her time in keeping everyone functioning well and facilitating life and ministry for the family – kids to school, teaching English outreach classes, cooking for large gatherings, being host to our kids’ school friends that visit regularly … not to mention the “normal” full-time work of a busy mother. She also finds time to spend time listening to and praying with mothers as they share their hearts over tea, cooking, and visiting our home.

In addition to pastoring and church planting, for the last several years Nathan has served as the President of JEMA (Japan Evangelical Missionary Association).

CONVERSION
Nathan was led to the Lord at the age of five by his father in Decatur, Georgia. His parents have had a major influence on his life.

Linda was converted at the age of 10 at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

EARLY MINISTRY
Nathan graduated from Welch College with a B.S. degree in 1991. While a student at Welch College, Nathan was active in public relations and student recruitment. He served as Minister of Music at Cofer’s Chapel FWB Church for a period of time before his missionary appointment. He also has taught music at Franklin Road Christian School as well as music and physical education at Joelton Elementary School in the Nashville area.

Nathan married Linda Boone on July 28, 1990. While a student at Welch College, Linda was involved in public relations and student recruitment. She participated in ministries at the women’s mission and women’s prison. She also worked in Sunday school and bus ministries. She has had extensive experience working in day care ministries in Nashville, Tennessee.

In December 1991, Nathan and Linda were appointed to a two-year term of service in Japan. Linda taught and supervised students from kindergarten through grade twelve at the Hokkaido Christian Learning Center which was started in the fall of 1990. The center was an alternative to home schooling and allowed the missionary parents to devote their time to their ministries rather than teaching their own children. Nathan taught physical education and music and worked with Dale Bishop. Later, the Learning Center was closed and the Snows taught the MKs at Hokkaido International School.

CHILDREN
The Snows have seven children: Daniel Curtis, born November 23; Megan Ruth, born September 3; Andrew William, born January 31; Jacob Charles, born November 19; Noah Silas, born June 4; Josiah Luke, born March 2; and Isaac James, born December 1.

Prayer Requests

  • We are currently working in Eastern Hokkaido. Our children attend Japanese schools in the area. Linda teaches English part time at two elementary schools. Pray for our children, and pray that they will be lights in these schools.
  • To my knowledge, none of the approximately 20 English students that are in our outreach classes taught at the Abashiri church are Christian. We are teaching four classes there: kindergarten, two elementary and one adult class. Many mothers also attend the childrens’ classes. Most have never heard the gospel story. These are classes that have only started recently. Pray that through these many would come to know Christ.
  • We are prayerfully looking at the many cities and towns around Abashiri and Bihoro that do not have any gospel preaching church (of any kind). Pray for God’s direction as we seek to reach these new areas.
  • Pray God will supply the financial needs of the Snows. Japan is an extremely expensive country in which to minister
