Meet Robert Newton, IM Missionary to Japan
Robert has been appointed to serve a two-year internship as a missionary with Hope Alive Church right outside of Tokyo, Japan. Robert gave his life to Christ while he was in college at Tennessee Tech, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). After five years working as an auditor in various settings, Robert felt the Lord’s call to missions in Japan. He is excited to serve Hope Alive Church wherever he is needed and share the Good News of the Gospel with the Japanese people.”

Why Japan?
In July of 2024, Robert went on a 10-day mission trip to Hope Alive Church in Japan. When the trip was first announced months before, he heard the Lord tell him “Go. This is for you.” but he wouldn’t fully understand the magnitude of this until well after the trip. While in Japan, he experienced something he never had before – people actively worshipping in shrines things that were not the God of the Bible. He realized that many Japanese people have faith and desire to be known and to worship something, but the object of their worship is misplaced and futile. Upon returning home, Robert spent the next few months praying and wrestling with what he had seen in Japan. The Lord used this time to build the burden of the Japanese people in his heart, and ultimately Robert realized that the Lord’s message of “Go. This is for you.” was not only for those 10 days, but where the Lord was calling him to go and remain.
How Robert Ministers to the Japanese
Prayer Requests:
- Pray that the Lord will prepare people’s hearts to give generously as I begin fundraising.
- Pray that the Lord will go before me and soften people’s hearts in Japan towards the Gospel, and that I would be blessed to experience fruit of our ministry first-hand.
- Pray for patience and understanding as I learn to live in a new culture and to speak a new language.
- Pray for opportunities to share the Gospel early and often.

You can partner with Robert to reach people in Japan with the Gospel.
