Approved as missionary interns to Spain in December 2019, Sam and Lauren Riggs are seeking prayer and financial partners for their two–year internship.
Both Sam and Lauren were raised in Christian homes. Sam, son of former missionaries to Spain Mark and Juli Riggs, was born in Spain. Sam accepted Christ as Savior and was baptized in Spain. His family returned to the States when he was 11. His parents’ ministry, relationships in and outside the church, and home life cultivated his desire to serve on the mission field as well.
Lauren (Strickland) grew up in Jacksonville, North Carolina. She grew up in church and attended a Christian school. Her family enjoyed a vibrant, practical Christian life. As a result, she made the decision to accept Christ as Savior and place her identity in Him. Sam and Lauren met at Welch College in 2014, and got married in July of 2017.
After Sam’s family returned to the States, he became a bit reserved. His shyness led him to retreat into the Word and develop a stronger spiritual life. Sam attended University of West Alabama in 2013 for his Freshman year of college, but after, he decided to transfer to Welch College. While at Welch College, his background as a missionary kid led him to attend a mission trip Welch College hosted. He traveled to Panama in 2015. The following year, he participated in IM’s CMP mission trip to Brazil. Sam graduated with a B.S. in exercise science in 2017.
As a teen, Lauren participated in ETEAM Tokyo (2012) and ETEAM France (2013). She decided to attend Welch College to pursue a career in missions. In 2014, she participated in a trip to Uganda with Kirby Church (Michigan). She taught English at an orphanage and loved it. She found that God could use her love of teaching on the mission field. She decided to pursue her bachelor’s degree in English and Theology while minoring in intercultural studies and English as a second language (ESL). While at Welch, Lauren served in Tokyo, Japan, as an overseas apprentice during the summer of 2016. Upon graduating from Welch in 2017, she decided to further her education by pursuing her master’s in education, graduating from Lipscomb University in 2019. Lauren has taught in Metro Nashville public schools with immigrant children.
Sam and Lauren got married July of 2017. In July of 2020, they welcomed a beautiful little miracle into their family, Emilia Charlotte. They love to share their story of God’s faithfulness in their lives; they would love to tell you how God moved mountain after mountain to allow their family to reach the mission field.
