Samuel & Lauren Riggs

Approved as missionary interns to Spain in December 2019, Sam and Lauren Riggs are seeking prayer and financial partners for their two–year internship.

Both Sam and Lauren were raised in Christian homes. Sam, son of former missionaries to Spain Mark and Juli Riggs, was born in Spain. Sam accepted Christ as Savior and was baptized in Spain. His family returned to the States when he was 11. His parents’ ministry, relationships in and outside the church, and home life cultivated his desire to serve on the mission field as well.

Lauren (Strickland) grew up in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Her family was in church “every time the doors were open.” She also attended a Christian school and her family enjoyed a vibrant, practical Christian life. As a result, she made the decision to accept Christ as Savior and place her identity in Him.

Sam and Lauren met at college and married in 2017.

After Sam’s family returned to the States, he became a bit reserved. His shyness led him to retreat into the Word and develop a stronger spiritual life. Sam attended Welch College. He traveled to Panama on a Welch team mission trip in 2015. The following year, he participated in IM’s CMP mission trip to Brazil. Sam graduated with a B.S. in exercise science in 2017. Sam serves in AWANA, helping with recreation time, with The Donelson Fellowship.

As a teen Lauren’ participated in ETEAM Tokyo (2012) and ETEAM France (2013). She also participated in a trip to Uganda with Kirby Church (Michigan) in 2014. She taught English at an orphanage and loved it. Lauren’s family encouraged her decision to attend Welch College where she pursued her bachelor’s degree in English and Theology while minoring in intercultural studies and English as a second language (ESL) in 2017. While at Welch Lauren served in Tokyo, Japan, as an overseas apprentice during the summer of 2016. She pursued her master’s in education, graduating from Lipscomb University in 2019. Lauren has taught in Metro Nashville public schools with immigrant children, although she is currently employed by the Executive Office of the National Association as receptionist. She serves in her local church in choir, on the welcome team, and assisting those with special needs.

Sam and Lauren met at college and married in 2017. They have experienced two miscarriages, and through the loss, have seen God work in their hearts and lives. The couple expects to become a family of three in July 2020.
